Fashion accessories for men

April 9th, 2009 by Michael Brooks | No Comments | Filed in Uncategorized

Heres afew mens fashion accessories to go with those designer clothes for the guys.

  • The belt. Not only content with performing the public duty of keeping the trousers of men up around everywhere, its also being used to make fashion statements now. The standard buckle can be replaced with with a buckle of our choice, from alittle coffin that opens up, to a led light belt buckle. Another variety is the web belt, with a ‘locking mechanism’ instead of a buckle, which after a year youll have trouble getting it to lock. Oh, and if you do have a hairy chest, watch out that they dont get caught in the mechanism -ow.
  • The watch. A classic, the watch seems to have been replaced slighty by the fact that people can now see the time on there mobile phone, but some people still stand by them. Digital watches have advanced with rest of technology. From a neon pink watch that gives you the sea tides anywhere in the world for 15 years to one digital watch with 2gb of memory to listen to music on. Another addition for the more sporty of us is the sweatband watch, with the watch face on the actual sweatband. Great for the sportmens. I just hope with all the sweating youll be doing that the sweatband watch is very absorbant? Also theres the classic ‘analogue’ watch, either with a sleek metallic strap or a leather strap for a touch of class.
  • Cufflinks. Another classic, cufflinks can be customised for a more personal touch yet still retaining some individuality.
  • Wallets. Because we’re afraid the other lads will laugh if we buy a purse. More often than not made from leather to allow for some sturdiness but flexibility, the wallet can come with a chain to attach to your trousers so it cant be lost/ stolen or without one, if you dont fancy the biker look of a wallet chain.

Jewelry Trends at the 2009 Oscars

April 8th, 2009 by Michael Brooks | No Comments | Filed in Uncategorized

Statement pieces were the choice of the day from celebrities on the 2009 red carpet.
Few chose to wear bracelets, rings, necklaces and earrings together, instead most chose to wear either a statement wrist cuff or necklace to maximize the glamour without looking overdone.

Perhaps with a nod to the current economic recession the stars certainly seemed to be focusing on a single signature piece rather than piling on the bling. In terms of colors and designs, silver seemed to be the front runner in the fashion stakes rather than gold. This gives fans a great opportunity to copy the latest red carpet looks at a fraction of the price.

The message from the Oscars seems to be wear one key piece of jewelry, with very classic styling, not beaded, and simple rather than edgy. The stars seemed to have been advised to wear either a necklace or a bracelet but not both!

Kate Winslett lead the way with a simple but elegant bracelet with diamond earrings. Supporting actress nominee Taraji P Henson just wore a stunning diamond cuff-style necklace in what appeared to be a flower design.

In contrast, Heidi Klum seemed to get the look wrong and over did it with multiple ladies bracelets and very large sweeping earrings which curved around her face.

Celebrities always want their couture dresses speak for themselves, there were a lot of simple earrings, in button rather than drop styles. Button style earrings always enhance the overall look, but don’t distract from the dress. One star who stepped out wearing the exception to the simple earrings of her contemporaries was Angelina Jolie. Angelina chose to wear large vibrant Fred Leighton emerald drop earrings and a matching emerald cocktail ring. In keeping with the trend though, she appeared without necklace or bracelets so retained a cool, classic look.

For men designer jewellery and decoration, apart from cuff-links, are barely noticeable - we didn’t spot any mens bracelets. Brad Pitt did show off some fancy metal shirt buttons, and a few other male stars chose an understated silver brooch to wear on their tuxedo lapels.

However the jewelry talking point of the night had to be Mickey Rourke’s choker style mens necklace. Nominated for Best Actor for his role in The Wrestler, Rourke appeared on the Oscar red carpet wearing a pendant around his neck bearing a photo of the his deceased pet Loki the chihuahua, along with his cream Jean Paul Gaultier tuxedo and open-necked shirt.
